A. F. Parlow Library of Health Sciences Becomes a Reality

Construction image 1

Groundbreaking March 22, 1982, launched  the construction phase of the A. F. Parlow  Library of Health Sciences, once Dr. A. F. Parlow guaranteed more than half of the required $1.5 million from the A. F. Parlow Pituitary Hormones Trust Fund.
Once the former parking lot on the Vermont side of the  campus was cleared, molds were built and concrete was poured to form the walls of the tilt-up construction.

Cranes lifted the walls into place less than six months after groundbreaking, giving the appearance of an "instant library" as the structure took form in only a few days. Each wall weighed many tons and was guided carefully into retaining structures by the cranes and construction workers from McAlpine & Sayler Construction Inc.       C. W.  DuBourdieu, Jr., A.I.A., was architect for the project.

Upon completion of the exterior, interior
finishing and furnishing began, and the
library actually began serving the medical
education and research needs of Harbor-
UCLA in February, 1983.
Dr. Albert F. Parlow was a major contributor toward building the A. F. Parlow
Library of Health Sciences.
